24 Oct Types Of Skin
Obviously, not all skin is the same. But apart from ethnicity and age, our skin is characterized by its skin type. There are many factors that determine the types of the skin you have, these factors are genetics, age, and environment. The type of skin you have supports things such as water retention, sebum production, sensitivity and tendency to certain skin conditions, such as acne.
Our skin is often classified into 5 main types:
• Normal skin
• Dry skin
• Oily skin
• Combination skin
• Sensitive skin
The type of skin you have determines the treatment, products and personalizing your skincare routines to enhance optimal skin health, postponing signs of aging and showing your best skin qualities and your natural beauty.
1. Normal skin
Normal skin is also known as eudermic skin. This type of skin is a well-balanced skin. Factors that affect the skin such as moisture content and sebum production among others are within normal range. It is unlikely that normal skin will suffer from skin conditions and looks clear, radiant and healthy. Normal skin is common among young individuals.
Features of normal skin types
• There are no skin blemishes
• The pores are fine, barely visible
• The tone of the skin is even, smooth and clear
• Radiant Complexion
How to take care of normal skin?
Although they are free from normal skin conditions, people with skin should still adopt a health regime that includes moisturizing, regular cleaning and preventive skin care treatments.
2. Dry skin
This can also be referred to as xerosis. It is a common complaint that makes almost half of the visit to the dermatologist. Dry skin can occur as a result of genetics or environmental factors. Individuals with dry skin may be deficient of some natural moisturizing factors which have been found to be helpful for the skin to retain water and may result to the production of fewer sebums than other types of skin. Dry skin is common in women than men
Features of Dry skin:
• The skin is tense and fragile, lacking elasticity
• Skin texture is rough
• Complexion looks dull and blotchy
• Scaling, flaking, and itchiness may occur
• The skin is predisposed to redness, irritation, and infection
How to take care of dry skin?
In the event that you have dry skin, skin care products that have drying ingredients should be avoided or deny the skin of sebum. Stay away from things that can worsen dry skin, such as long hot showers, central heating, some drugs, and exposure to UV radiation.
3. Oily skin
Oily skin occurs as a result of overactive sebaceous glands, producing too much sebum. This condition can also be referred to as seborrhea. People with some type of oily skin are more susceptible to some skin blemishes and skin problems, especially acne. Like most skin types, oily skin is strongly influenced by genetics.
Features of oily skin
• Pores are big and are visible
• The skin looks thicker and paler
• Vulnerable to different forms of acne, especially in the T zone (forehead, nose, and chin)
• The skin looks shiny or greasy
• Oily skin looks rough and younger
How to take care of oily skin?
If you have oily skin ensure that you wash your face with gentle cleanser and utilize skin care products that are noncomedogenic that do not clog pores. Excessive sebum production can also be treated with some acne remedies.
4. Combinations skin
This is the most common type of skin and is characterized by a combination of oily skin and dry skin in different facial areas.
Usually, people with this type of skin will have oily skin in their T zone. This indicates that they have excessive sebum production around the forehead, nose, and chin.
Features of combination skin types:
• Oily skin is found around the chin, nose, and forehead
• Especially susceptible to acne on the chin, nose, and forehead
• The mouth, eyes, and cheeks may have dry or normal skin
• Big pores around chin, nose, and forehead
How to take care of combination skin?
People with combination skin types need different skin care regimes that deal with different areas of skin and their specific diseases.
5. Sensitive skin
In case you have sensitive skin, there will be a lot of emotional and environmental factors that can affect it ranging from a change of weather, to household pets, stress and even dust. Sensitive skin occurs as a result of irritation of the nerve endings in the top layer of skin. This is due to the fact that the skin’s natural barrier function has been weakened and has broken down due to a trigger.
How to take care of sensitive skin
The cause of sensitive skin can be removed but the problems remains that it cannot be cured completely. However, your skin can be protected and you can prevent it from irritation when you make use of the right skin care regime as it can help to protect and prevent your skin from irritation, keeping it hydrated, smooth and glowing.
